Harvey Joseph Chenier was born in Port Arthur on July 22, 1898. On his attestation paper, Harvey has indicated that he was born in 1887, a full 11 years before his actual birth! Harvey was an unmarried teamster with no prior Militia experience before he joined the 52nd Bn at Port Arthur on September 11, 1915 at the age of 17.

Harvey's brother Raoul was in the 52nd Bn and Aza Chenier in the 28th Bn (from the 94th Bn).
