1st Reinforcing Draft

In the late spring of 1915, the 52nd Battalion had just finished being raised and was beginning training at the outskirts of Port Arthur. It was at this time that Colonel Hay was required to provide a draft of approximately 250 troops to act as reinforcements for the 1st and 2nd Divisions already in Europe. Most of the troops that he had to give up for the 1st Reinforcing Draft were the very first members of the 52nd Battalion. After arriving in England in July of 1915 these troops continued their training at Shorncliffe before being sent off to their new battalions.
